Plot
Inspired by the homonymous novel by Peter Cameron, this film is the humorous and passionate portrayal of contemporary New York, narrated through the eyes of young James (Toby Regbo) and his disfunctional family. His mother Marjorie (Oscar® winning Marcia Gay Harden) owns an art gallery where she exhibits trash cans and she collects husbands. His father Paul (Peter Gallagher) only dates women who may be his daughters, and his sister Gillian falls in love with men who are twice her age. Only Nanette (Oscar®winning Ellen Burstyn), hise enigmatic and nonconformist grandmother, manages to understand the discomfort of a seventeen-year-old in search of his identity, in the background of a New York city full of puzzling characters.
